About Uitly

Uitly is a small set of free tools for people who share links: a URL shortener, a QR code generator and a link-in-bio builder, with one dashboard behind them.

Why we built it

Link tools are everywhere, and most of them are frustrating in the same way. You arrive wanting to shorten one URL and you hit a sign-up wall. You generate a QR code and the download has a watermark, or the code quietly stops working after a free trial expires. You build a bio page and it comes wrapped in someone else's branding and a nag to upgrade.

None of that is a technical necessity. Shortening a URL is a database row and a redirect. Generating a QR code is a well-documented algorithm that runs in your browser. A bio page is a heading, a paragraph and a list of links. These things are simple, so we made them simple.

What we believe

A tool should do what it says on the button. It should be fast enough that you stop noticing it. It should not require an account for the thing you can obviously do without one, and it should make signing up worth it for the things that genuinely need it, saving your work, editing it later, seeing how it performed.

We also think analytics should be modest. You need to know how many people clicked, roughly what they used, and where they came from. You do not need a profile of every individual visitor, and they certainly did not agree to one. So we record coarse buckets, discard the rest, and never store a raw IP address.

How Uitly stays free

Being honest about this matters. Uitly costs money to run, and today it is funded out of pocket because the costs are small. Over time we expect to cover them through some combination of unobtrusive advertising on content pages, sponsored guides on the blog, and an optional paid tier for teams who want things like custom domains, dynamic QR codes and deeper analytics.

What will not happen: the tools that are free today becoming paid, your data being sold, or a watermark appearing on codes you already printed.

Where we are headed

The near-term list is unglamorous and mostly about depth: better analytics filtering, bulk link creation, more bio page themes, and an API. Anything that would compromise the four principles below does not make the list.

Principles

Four things we will not trade away

Three tools, done properly

We would rather ship a shortener, a QR generator and a bio builder that all work well than twenty half-finished features nobody trusts.

Privacy is not a feature

We do not store raw IP addresses, we do not set tracking cookies, and we do not sell data. That is the baseline, not an upgrade.

No dark patterns

Nothing is hidden behind a fake limit. If a button says Download, it downloads. If it says Free, it is free.

Small enough to care

Uitly is a small project. When you email us, a person reads it, and the roadmap genuinely moves based on what people ask for.
